Russia’s Gazprom announced that gas shipments to China set a new daily record, underscoring the importance of its giant neighbor after almost losing the European market to the war in Ukraine.
Although Gazprom did not disclose the volume of gas exported to China, it said last week that it was increasing supplies to Beijing via the “Siberian Energy” pipeline.
A clause attached to a gas supply contract with China’s CNPC allowed the Russian state-owned company to increase flows starting in mid-November.
Officials from both companies also discussed potential gas supplies via the “Siberian Power 2” pipeline through Mongolia during a meeting in Beijing last Thursday.
