Samsung has introduced the Galaxy S24 series, which brings a range of AI-powered features that promise an enhanced user experience.
These advantages are currently limited to the Galaxy S24 series, although the South Korean company has good news for owners of older flagship phones.
Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, emphasized in an interview with TechRadar that the flagship devices of 2023 will receive new advantages from Galaxy AI.
The list of devices includes the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9 Plus, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra.
The mentioned devices will receive the new artificial intelligence features through the One UI 6.1 update in the first half of 2024.
The unexpected exception is the company’s devices for 2022, including the Galaxy S22 series, which are eligible for the One UI 6.1 update. Samsung has remained silent about the reason for this neglect.
When questioned about the Galaxy S22 series, Choumit stated that the company is focusing the initial release of Galaxy AI features on the latest generation devices at the present time.
This matter leaves Galaxy S22 owners behind, making them unsure if they will later experience the full capabilities of their devices.
The confusion grows when knowing that the Galaxy S23 FE phone is included in the launch process, and it features the Exynos 2200 processor used in the Galaxy S22 series in some regions.
Owners of the Galaxy S22 series may potentially get the Galaxy AI later, although Samsung has not provided any specific timeline or guarantee.
It doesn’t seem like the hardware is the reason that Samsung limits these features to modern devices, and this could be due to the cost.
Most of the benefits of Galaxy AI require working in the cloud, specifically through the paid Google Gemini models.
Samsung promotes itself that these benefits may require future payment, although there is no information regarding the date of the payment’s effectiveness.
