Saudi Arabia announced the discovery of two natural gas fields in the eastern region and in the empty quarter, with a total flow rate of up to 34 million cubic feet per day.
“Saudi Aramco discovered the Al-Hiran natural gas field after gas flowed from the Hanifa reservoir in the Al-Hiran-1 well at a rate of 30 million cubic feet per day and 1600 barrels of condensate, in addition to the flow of gas from Al Arab-C reservoir in the same field at a rate of 3.1 million cubic feet per day,” Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz said.
Saudi Aramco also discovered the natural gas field “Al-Mahakik”, after the gas flowed from the well “Al-Mahakik-2” at a rate of 0.85 million cubic feet per day.
Aramco is leading Saudi Arabia’s efforts to become a major player in gas production globally, exploring more fields within its territory as well as expanding investment externally in order to meet domestic gas demand or support export needs.
It is expected that the production of more gas will help replace the oil used to generate electricity, leading to a larger surplus of oil for export.
