Sunflower oil production covers the needs of the domestic market by 31% in Kazakhstan

The production of sunflower oil in Kazakhstan exceeded the needs of the domestic market by 31%, 54 companies are engaged in the production of sunflower oil, which produced more than 537 thousand tons of oil the previous year.

The data showed that 253 thousand tons of sunflower oil were produced in six months of 2023, of which Kazakhstan exported 146.1 thousand tons, an increase of 30% year-on-year, while imports of sunflower oil decreased to 38.7 thousand tons.

The data indicated that exports of sunflower oil last year amounted to 230 thousand tons, which is 1.7 times more than in 2021, and last year’s import did not exceed 100 thousand tons.

The Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture noted that the area of sunflower seeds is constantly expanding, as a result of which in 2022, 1.09 million hectares of these oilseeds were planted, in 2023 the area expanded by 66.7 thousand hectares, and at the end of last year, 1.3 million tons of sunflower seeds were harvested.
