Elon Musk’s vehicle, Tesla Model Y, has toppled Toyota, the Japanese giant, from the top spot in the global ranking of the best-selling vehicles, which it had held control over for decades.
Over the past twenty years, the Toyota Corolla has gained immense popularity like never before, and it was difficult for any other car to compete with its sales worldwide. However, a change occurred at the beginning of 2023.
Tesla Model Y has solidified its absolute dominance in the market as the most popular vehicle among consumers worldwide. By the end of November 2023, it has managed to surpass Toyota Corolla, taking the top position in the global ranking for the most sought-after vehicles.
According to the global automotive market report until November 2023, the electric vehicle “Tesla Way” has seen a significant increase in sales by 57.1% compared to the same period last year.
The report, obtained by “Al Khaleej”, highlighted the best-selling types of vehicles worldwide in 2023. The category “Tesla Way” sold about 1.06 million new cars within 11 months of 2023.
The Japanese car model “Toyota Corolla” came in second place, which has been leading the ranking for several years. The company announced that it sold around 1.01 million vehicles, experiencing a growth of 0.7% since the beginning of 2023 until last November.
According to the report “Most Sold Vehicle Categories in the World in 2023”, it was revealed that Toyota RAV4 dropped to third place in the rankings with sales reaching 819,780 new cars, representing a growth of 3.6%, compared to the same period in 2022.
The report highlighted that the Ford F-Series pickup truck became the first in its category, ranking fourth in sales with a total of 777,231 vehicles sold and achieving an annual growth rate of 12.0%.
The Honda CR-V vehicle was able to solidify its position in fifth place after the company sold 629,765 new cars of this model, with a growth of 15.2%.
The Toyota Camry ranked sixth after experiencing a significant decrease in sales of 5.9%, selling 572,015 new vehicles in 11 months of 2023.
The sales of “Hyundai Tucson” grew by 13%, with the company selling about 562,211 new vehicles, ranking seventh in the classification. The American brand “Chevrolet Silverado” took the eighth position, with sales of 535,957 new units, showing a slight increase of 0.1% compared to the same period in 2022.
Following closely is “Toyota Hilux,” which experienced a decrease in sales by 3.9%, selling 521,633 new cars during the first 11 months of 2023.
The top ten categories of vehicles worldwide concluded the first 11 months of 2023 with “Ram Pickup” being the most sought-after, following the sale of 471,613 new vehicles. However, there was a significant decrease in sales, reaching 5.8%.
