The activities of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, will commence on Monday, under the theme of “Renewing Trust”.
This annual event is organized at a time when the world is witnessing a devastating war in Gaza and Ukraine. The advances in artificial intelligence have caused a lot of excitement and equal amount of concern, with a catastrophic debt crisis, economic decline, and climate deterioration.
More than 2800 people are expected to participate in the forum, including over 60 heads of state and government, for a period of five days starting from Monday, January 15th. It has been agreed that the focus of this year’s meeting of political leaders, global business figures, prominent personalities, and distinguished social activists will be “Rebuilding Trust”.
The director of the World Economic Forum, Mirek Dusek, said in a press conference:
“The theme of this year has been chosen as a direct response to the evident decline in trust within societies and between nations.” He added that some people may directly associate this with “the major transformations that we are witnessing, whether they are political, economic, or related to the environment and nature.”
Among the prominent political leaders who participated were French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. It is also expected that newly elected Argentine President, Javier Milei, will attend.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will meet with relevant parties involved in the Gaza war, including Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to discuss ways to end the conflict in the region and prevent further escalation of tensions, which is feared by many.
