Toyota Motor announced that it has sold a record-breaking 11.2 million cars in 2023, securing its position as the world’s top-selling car company for the fourth consecutive year.
The Japanese automaker reported a 7.2 percent jump in global group sales last year, including sales of Hino Motors trucks and Daihatsu small cars, supported by record-breaking external sales of 8.9 million vehicles.
German rival Volkswagen Group, the second-largest competitor, earlier this month announced a 12 percent increase in deliveries last year to 9.2 million cars, marking a recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain disruptions.
Toyota’s sales of only original cars, including those bearing the same name and the Lexus brand, reached a record-breaking 10.3 million cars in 2023.
Hybrid cars, which run on both gasoline and electricity, accounted for about one-third of those cars. Battery electric cars accounted for less than one percent. (Reuters)
