Iraq’s Minister of Electricity announced the visit of Turkmenistan and Qatar delegations to explore the possibility of buying gas.
This came in statements following his hosting by the Iraqi Electricity and Energy Commission, to discuss the Ministry’s plan to equip electricity during the summer and the reasons for the low processing, according to the official Iraqi News Agency.
The Minister justified the reason for the low processing (meeting the demand for electricity locally), with the Iranian gas outage; This resulted in the loss of 6 thousands of MWs and their departure from work.
The decline in Iranian gas supply comes a week after Baghdad announced the signing of an agreement with Tehran to trade gas imported from Iran for Iraqi crude oil to meet growing demand for electricity.
Iraq produces between 19 and 21,000 MW of electricity, while the actual requirement exceeds 30 thousand; This leads to frequent outages of the current amid an outcry from the population.
