The UAE-Indonesia Joint Working Group on Energy held its first meeting at the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
The meeting was chaired by Sharif Al-Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, and Triario Soeselo, Special Officer of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for Infrastructure and Investment Acceleration in Indonesia.
The joint working group seeks to enhance bilateral cooperation, encourage bilateral trade and investment in the field of energy, and enhance scientific and technical synergy.
It is the result of the joint declaration of intent between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia in 2022.
The meeting was attended by officials from the two ministries and representatives of private sector institutions in the two countries.
They discussed and identified new projects in the areas of oil and gas, renewable energy, electricity, and mineral resources.
“We highly value our cooperation with our Indonesian counterparts and are committed to strengthening it for our mutual benefit. The Joint Working Group will work to take our energy relations to new heights, especially in clean energy, as we aim to reach net zero by 2050,” Al-Olama said.
“Today marks the beginning of a promising journey towards strengthening cooperation in the energy sector,” Trihario Soeselo said.
“Indonesia and the UAE have long been strategic partners in the oil and gas industry. However, as the global challenges of climate change and energy security emerge, the two countries must expand their cooperation in the energy landscape,” he added.
