In March 2022, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov held an online meeting with TikTok Vice President Theo Bertramo and discussed ‘issues of ensuring the security of personal information of platform users in Uzbekistan and complying with the requirements of the law’ of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Culture in 2021 called the TikTok app ‘harmful,’ and two parties called for it to be banned in the country.
