On Tuesday, Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani witnessed the signing of 12 agreements and a memorandum of understanding between the two countries along with a letter of intent and two cooperation programmes.
According to a statement by the Amir’s Office, the parties witnessed the signing of an agreement on mutual promotion and protection of investments, another on the elimination of double taxation with regard to income taxes, prevention of evasion and tax avoidance, and a third on cooperation and mutual administrative assistance in customs matters.
The parties signed a Convention on Cooperation in the Recruitment of Workers, a Convention on Exemption from Visa Requirements for Diplomatic Passport Holders and a Convention on Cooperation in Higher Education and Scientific Research.
In addition, a memorandum of cooperation in the field of trade was signed between the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a memorandum of cooperation in the areas of youth and sports, and a memorandum of understanding between the Municipality of Doha and the Municipality of Tashkent City.
The parties also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of culture, a memorandum of understanding and cooperation on agriculture and food security, and a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Municipality of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Agricultural Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation in the field of plant protection and quarantine between the Governments of the two countries.
In addition, the two sides signed a cooperation programme between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period 2023-2025, a cooperation programme between the Ministry of Justice of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and a letter of intent between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Republic.
Members of the official delegation of the Emir of the State of Qatar attended the signing ceremony at the Samarkand Conference Centre and a number of ministers and senior officials from the Uzbek side, following a meeting of bilateral discussions by the Emir of Qatar and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
